To the Parents/Guardians of (Class/Subject) I am writing to inform you that in today’s technologically enriched world I have decided that is best to start a blog to aid our learning of (Class/Subject). With introducing this new outlet for continued communication amongst the students I understand that some concerns might arise. Each student’s safety is of great importance to us, and with the use of this technology we ask your permission. If granted, your student will receive a list of our schools Acceptable Use Policy and we will all go over this list in class so that everyone understands the rules and consequences. The Blog will be under strict surveillance and every post will be visible by myself.

Erica's paragraph: The use of this blog service is to teach the students how to use the internet effectively and safely. Technology is rapidly growing and changing, and it is imperative that students know how to use it to its full potential. This blog service will help the students grasp the concept of using internet tools as an aide in the educational process and how they can use it for future educational tasks. I feel that the students will benefit greatly from using this internet tool and it will foreshadow many situations in the future that they will have to encounter that involve understanding of the internet and what it has to offer.

While your student will receive a list of our school’s Acceptable Use Policy in class, I want to include in this letter some key points within this letter. Our school will take every precaution to protect your student’s privacy. We have limited their username to be their first name and last initial. We have also asked that they not share personal information including but not limited to their full name, address, home or cell phone number, email address, school name or address, home address, photographs of themselves or any other personal indicators. Students are not allowed to share their username and password with anyone except for parents and teachers. We have chosen not to publicize the school name, logo or address within this blog to further protect your student’s privacy. The blog is a tool used to further the education we provide your student. As such, our classroom behavior policy is extended to this blog. We will not tolerate any inappropriate speech, inappropriate comments, or anything that can be construed as cyber bullying. The Miriam Webster Dictionary defines cyber bullying as “the electronic posting of mean-spirited messages about a person (as a student) often done anonymously” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cyberbullying). If a student encounters anything that can be construed as cyber bullying or other inappropriate behavior, they should notify a teacher or parent immediately. Students are expected to educational contributions to this blog. They may engage in debates or conversations, but these debates and conversations are restricted by our classroom behavior policy. The school faculty, other schools, and parents will be given access to view and comment on this blog. This blog will be available for search on the internet and will be able for use to anyone on the internet. It is unlikely but possibly for anyone with an internet connection to use our blog. This blog was designed this way to teach students about the responsibility of the internet. Failure to comply with these rules will result in the exclusion of the student from the blog and appropriate disciplinary action. I read and understood the blog’s terms and conditions. By signing this letter, I agree to uphold them.
